The Admirable Triumph

A princely wedding was also a political performance. An animated film for the Palace of the Princes of Transylvania, bringing the spectacle and ambition of Gabriel Bethlen’s marriage to Catherine of Brandenburg into view.

Four centuries later.

In 2026, four hundred years after the wedding, the Palace of the Princes of Transylvania was expanding its permanent exhibition. The museum invited us to tell the story through animation.

Working with its historians and experts, we faced a compelling challenge: make the celebrations captivating while staying faithful to the historical detail — and reveal the political ambitions behind the spectacle.

We built a visual collage from historical source imagery, hand-drawn illustrations and digital reconstructions.

The museum’s research guided the details; our task was to bring them into a coherent world. We wanted visitors to enjoy the splendour of the celebrations while discovering what the ceremony, clothing and display communicated about power.

History supplied the material.

Motion design gave the collage its rhythm, with moments of frame-by-frame animation adding character and gesture.

A wedding set in motion.

Working with ALL MAD Studio, we brought the layers together into scenes that could carry both the scale of the festivities and the details worth a closer look.

The storyboard and animatic helped us shape the narrative, pacing and transitions before the finished imagery came together. Here, the same moments move from an early plan to the final scene.

Good company, across four centuries.

Bringing these historical figures to the screen was a shared pleasure. We’re grateful to the museum’s historians and experts for their knowledge and guidance, and to our creative team for the care, ingenuity and enthusiasm they brought to every scene.
